Toss them in a soup, smoothie, tea or body oil; soak them in a mason jar and set it outside to make sun tea; or grind them into an ointment. There are so many ways to nourish ourselves with the healing benefits of herbs as the seasons switch and the temperature drops.

Let's boost those immune systems, make yummy food and keep spirits high with these simple hacks!

Flu-Fighting Veggie Stew Recipe

Healing herbs (fresh, if possible): Sage, thyme, oregano, garlic, chile, parsley, coriander

Veggies (use whatever is seasonal near you!): Carrot, broccoli, potato, onion, celery, red or green lentils, garbanzo beans

In a giant pot, fill ¹⁄³ of the way with filtered water and add your favorite spices (minus salt, always salt last!) to get a homemade broth going. Chop and slice all the veggies to your liking, and put them in according to how dense they are. So lentils in first, then potatoes and carrots, celery, onion, etc. You can do the herbs half in first and half at the end, so that you get flavor but don’t cook the nutrients out of all of them.

Morning Cleanse

Want a break from tea? Squeeze fresh lemon into a mug of hot water, add 1-2 tablespoons of unfiltered apple cider vinegar and a little maple syrup or agave as sweetener.

Breathe Easy Ointment

If you don’t have the patience to infuse your own oils, just throw a couple drops of your favorite essential oils into your preferred oil base. Coconut oil, shea butter, almond or avocado works nicely! Rub a blend of peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender and lemon verbena on your chest to help with clear breathing, or lather your feet in orange and tea tree oil to ward off bacteria.

Salt Water & Essential Oil Gargle

Mix half an ounce of warm water with Himalayan salt, 1 drop tea tree oil and 1 drop lavender. Make sure these are highgrade oils that are safe for using internally.

Throat Spray

Steep 1 teaspoon of ground sage, echinacea and lemon verbena in half a cup of hot water for 30 minutes. Strain and then combine with half a cup of grain alcohol or other liquor. Once cool, pour into a spray bottle and spray into throat every 2 hours or as needed.

Sun Tea

Grab a giant mason jar, toss in some great herbs for wellness, peppermint for respiratory and digestive health, sage for sore throat and gut cramping, and thyme for headaches and body aches. Screw the lid shut and leave it outside in direct sunlight for 3 hours. Even in cooler climates, this should still work.

Tonic

Using a blender, combine hot water, ginger root, turmeric, garlic and agave together to make a super powerful shot of sick-busting herbs. Take it down like a champ and wait for the healing to begin. It’ll burn like crazy, but it’s powerful. For a milder approach, steep ginger root and turmeric in hot water, or blend them together for a powerful tonic shot.

Nighttime Treat

Warm almond milk, add 1 tablespoon of coconut milk, agave, cinnamon, nutmeg and cacao powder for an immune-boosting sweet treat
