In peaceful pastel colors, Lisbon rolls out its ancient streets, letting you wander its limestone cobbled passages, discovering the ins and outs of the city. It is both effortlessly beautiful and warmly welcoming, holding its history with pride while consciously modernizing to meet the growing demand from tourists. Here are a few of our favorite places to discover.

• MANTEIGARIA
Vegetarian
Address: Rua do Loreto 2
Website: manteigarialisboa.com

While this isn’t a shop that is specifically eco-friendly, it is, in my extremely humble opinion, the best place in Lisbon for pastel de nata, which, if you’re there for the cultural experience, should be tried at least once. Though the originator is the charming and tourist tackled Pastels de Belem (located next to the 16th century Jeronimos Monastery in Lisbon’s Belém, where these tasty treats were born).
• SAMA SAMA
Juice Bar + Grab to Go Bites
Address: Tv. Corpo Santo 7
Social: @samasamalisboa
A crepe and natural juice bar perfect for those on a budget, any time of day. All ingredients are fresh, local and organic. The couple who own it buy their ingredients in bulk to reduce waste, and they compost any food scraps left by customers.
